FLORIDA SOCIAL COGNITION AND
EMOTION LAB

University of Florida | Erin C. Westgate, Ph.D.

The Florida Social Cognition and Emotion Lab is directed by Dr. Erin C. Westgate, and based in the University of Florida's Department of Psychology.

We study boredom, interest, and thinking (and why it's so hard for so many of us!). Our research broadly explores the causes and consequences of emotion, with a special focus on understanding when and why emotions contribute to destructive social behaviors.  For instance, what is boredom, why do we experience it, and what happens when we do? What makes worship experiences meaningful? Why do people throw hurricane parties? Current projects in the lab include psychological richness, the consequences of boredom, and whether we enjoy our own inner lives.
